Lokmanch – Satara Municipal Corporation

The Municipal Building of Satara proposes a shift from imposing institutional structures to citizen-centric design. Inspired by Satara’s landscape, including its hills and forts, the design emphasizes public access and engagement. A ground-level plaza fosters community gatherings and dissent, while an amphitheater and wetland area serve as resilience infrastructure during floods. A rooftop garden offers panoramic views and recreational spaces. These public areas are connected by ramps for extended citizen use. Offices are strategically placed between public realms, symbolizing transparency and accessibility. Double-height waiting areas create visually connected spaces, potentially offering natural ventilation. Overall, the design embodies democratic ideals, prioritizing public interaction and inclusivity in governmental architecture.
