Mumbai, known as the city of dreams, lacks green spaces despite its bustling urban landscape. The Maharashtra Nature Park, once a landfill, offers a green oasis in the heart of the city but remains underutilized. Winner of an international design competition, Sameep Padora and Associates transformed it into a solar-powered retreat alongside the Mithi River. The park, intended for nature education, faced challenges of pollution and encroachment. The revamp includes a clean-up of the river, expansion of forest zones, and a pedestrian bridge linking Dharavi and BKC. Features like an amphitheater, viewing platforms, and a floating boardwalk aim to attract visitors and reconnect them with nature, addressing the park’s obscurity and promoting its potential.
